How to Center the Rear Wheel

First measure the exact width of the tire. Please note that shows a centerline but this isn't necessarily it.  Always measure the actual width and divide it by two to find the center.

Use a measuring device or a straight stick and put it on top of the backbone in dead center. We at Unlimited Choppers use a laser that is available thru Sears.

The laser sends out a beam which is indicated on the tire as a red dot.

This dot should be at the same spot as the exact half point of the tire.

Measure the right side of the axle first.  Use an inside dial caliper or similar. Make sure that the wheel does not move while doing this. Remember to insert the 3/4 inch dust cover first. Make sure it is fully entered and resting against the bearing. Then measure the spacer needed.  Make the spacer and insert it on the right side. Push the wheel over as far as possible to the right and measure the inside diameter on the left side in the same manner.
